Meet The Way to Wandering
Hi! I’m Danielle (Dani), the mind behind The Way to Wandering. I’m a Melbournian born and raised, who left their job as a travel agent… to well travel. There are many other reasons why I left the 9 to 5 job and decided to live abroad and become a travel blogger. Before I get into it. Let me start from the beginning.
It started during 2020, when we were in the thick of the pandemic. I don’t know if you know this, but Melbourne had one of the worse lock-downs in the world. Unfortunately, like majority of the world, It really broke a lot of our souls and even now Melbourne is not the same as it used to be.
During this time, like many other young impressionable people, I found myself deeply reflecting on my passions and ambitions-I wanted something that I both enjoyed and felt empowered by. I found myself wanting to become a travel agent. Once this thought crossed my mind, I wasted no time and decided to study travel and tourism in 2021.
During my course, I realized that there is more to the travel industry than selling it. I felt myself wanting to be my own boss and actually travel the world… SOLO! I wanted to create independence, flexibility, self-identity, and unforgettable experiences. This is when I started to find a passion in writing, sustainability, and entrepreneurship.
However, after weighing up my options, I settled for the job as a travel agent to really see if I made the right choice. Unfortunately, as much as I enjoyed some parts of the job, it was just unfulfilling and I left Flight Centre after around 5 months of working there. Whilst I was working, however, I was also studying travel journalism online. This added pressure and I felt very overworked.
Quitting Flight Centre, however, gave me the opportunity to finish my studies and start up a blog. ( And yes I did get other work, in a cafe (2022) and then as a domestic cleaner in 2023). These jobs gave me some flexibility, whilst studying and starting a blog.
By 2022 I had launched a blog, however, it just didn’t sit right with me, the idea behind it was great, but it didn’t connect with who I was. I felt like I was not being true to myself in my writing.
This is when The Way to Wandering came to me. Now I am able to work on creating a community of like-minded travellers (or ‘travelers’ if you’re from the U.S) and share my journey with you as raw and as real as I can.
What is 'The Way to Wandering' about?
‘The Way to Wandering’ is a blog dedicated to helping solo travellers all over the world find confidence and independence in their journeys. Whether you’re on a budget, want to travel responsibly, or are a woman wanting to feel safe visiting different countries.
The word ‘wandering’ is defined as moving from place to place without a fixed plan. Or walking around in a relaxed way. The idea is that you are so relaxed and confident when you travel, that the anxiety, nerves, and fears you feel are only a precaution, not to overtake and ruin your entire trip.
Feeling anxious whilst travelling solo is SOOOO normal. Even people who have been travelling solo for years still feel nervous. You’re visiting a foreign country alone, anything can happen. That’s why I’m here to guide you through your travels as best as I can.
